Research Associates
The SCIS Research Associate positions are offered on a six-month basis, with a three-month review. Exceptional candidates may be invited to extend their positions for a year. The positions require between 40 hours per week. Each year, one to two Research Associates are awarded internships in the Center's Research Library, which provides a stipend of $12 per hour and compensation up to $150.00 per month for health insurance.
The specific
course of study carried out by Research Associates includes:
- playing a leading role in carrying out and organizing the background research for the regional educational packages in the Southern Center's World in
Transition series,
- conducting background research and helping to draft the script for the Southern Center's Peabody award-winning, televised conferences,
- preparing and updating information packages on specific countries, as well as international issues and organizations,
- attending and participating in the Center's local programming; on occasion assisting in the production of these programs,
- attending and participating in the Center's regular courses,
- briefing teachers on current international issues during teacher training workshops.
Qualifications
Applicants for SCIS Research Associates must have completed a graduate degree in international affairs or another relevant field. Candidates will also have significant overseas experience, professional experience, excellent writing and computer skills, and will be able to perform detail-oriented work.

Application
materials for the Research Associate internship include a resume
and cover letter, all academic transcripts, and three letters of
recommendation. Interested students may apply by submitting these
materials to the Research Library at the address below. They may
be sent by e-mail or regular U.S. post. New Research Associates
may enter the school at the start of any academic term as positions
become available. Applications are accepted at any time. However,
applicants should have all application materials sent to SCIS at
least 2 months prior to their desired term of entrance. The time
periods for each term are:
Fall
Term (September - December)
Spring Term (January - April)
Summer Term (May - August)
